NoLube Technology, Standard
NoLube technology eliminates the need for lubrication on the top plate and locking mechanism. Replaceable NoLube plate inserts are mechanically bonded to a unique, perforated steel plate that provides low friction performance, and extends the life of the lube plate compound, eliminating the need for lubrication.

Forged Aluminum Top Plate
The FWAL's top plate is forged by Alcoa from the same alloy as Alcoa aluminum truck wheels (6061-T6), providing the perfect combination of the lightest weight fifth wheel in the world, with strength and durability.

The top plate's front lock insert is a wear-resistant alloy of machined steel.

Standard Drop Handle Configuration
A drop handle configuration is standard. This reduces handle damage and maintenance repairs due to improper coupling. The release handle requires a simple, straight pull effort and is available in right or left hand release. Our EZ grip release handle requires less pull effort to operate while improving safety.

Patented Lube Plate Inserts
The replaceable lube plate inserts are mechanically-bound to a unique "perforated" plate that provides friction-free performance and extends the life of the lube plate compound. The lube plates fit into cast recesses of the top plate and are secured by studs and locknuts.

Austempered ductile iron pocket inserts fit between the top plate and brackets to provide smooth, long lasting top plate articulation.

Special Alloy Kingpin Contact Area
A ‘slurry’ of binding materials and various alloys is applied to the lock area that make contact with the kingpin. It is then exposed to a highly focused laser that ‘micro-welds’ the slurry to the lock so it becomes an integral part of the metal. This provides a lubrication-free base, almost no wear nor corrosion over time, and it won’t chip off like a standard coating.

The ILS is compatible with HOLLAND FW35, FW31, and FW17 fifth wheel models, and is available in 7, 8, and 9 inch mounting heights, and travel lengths of 12, 24, 36, and 48 inches.
Sliding
Provides the capability of transfering weight between tractor axles, accomodating trailers with different kingpin settings, and vary vehicle combination lengths.

A sliding fifth wheel also provides the following additional benefits:
1) Resale: a sliding fifth wheel offers maximum equipment flexibility and is more likely to fit the application of a prospective purchaser.
2) Improved Maneuverability: a sliding fifth wheel positioned forward provides additional maneuverabliity in tight locations and sliding the fifth wheel rearward accommodates trailers with short landing gear clearance.
3) Ride Comfort: driver comfort is increased as the fifth wheel is located closer to the centerline of the bogie or rear axle. When the axles are not overloaded, the driver has the ability to extend the unit for maximum comfort.

Stationary
Best suited for applications where the axle loading, kingpin setting, and vehicle combination length all remain constant throughout the fleet.
Stationary fifth wheels are best suited for applications where the axle loading, kingpin setting, and vehicle combination length all remain constant throughout the fleet. Stationary fifth wheels are generally lighter weight and lower cost than sliding fifth wheels; however, they do not offer the application flexibility of a sliding fifth wheel.
If a stationary fifth wheel is chosen, the user still must determine whether to use an "angle-on-frame" (low cost and less torsional rigidity), a "plate mount" (higher cost and high torsional rigidity), or an "outboard angle mount" (universal hole pattern for medium torsional rigidity bolt-on mounting). This selection should be made to compliment the suspension and tractor frame.
